Robert F. Howarth

Robert F. Howarth was born in Newark, Ohio in 1944.  A graduate of Denison University, he has a law degree from Ohio State.  Before joining Shoemaker, Howarth & Taylor, L.L.P., he served as senior vice president for the Huntington National Bank, and practiced law in the Columbus office of Baker & Hostetler.
 
Mr. Howarth has an active government affairs, real estate development and business practice.  He brings to his practice many years of experience in state government, local government and business.  His state government experience includes service as assistant director of the Ohio Office of Budget and Management, president of the Ohio Controlling Board, president of the Ohio Emergency Board, executive assistant and general counsel to former Ohio Gov. James Rhodes; chairman of the Ohio Public Facilities Commission, member of the Ohio Board of Regents, and member of the transition teams for the administrations of former Governors James Rhodes and George Voinovich.  He was a member of the transition team for former Attorney General Betty Montgomery.  He also has served as a member of the Board of Bar Examiners for the Ohio Supreme Court.

His local government experience includes service as executive assistant to former Columbus Mayor Dana Rinehart, member of the Public Works Integrating Committee, executive director of the Columbus Center Civic Committee, chairman of the Columbus Charter Review Commission, and member of the transition teams for the administrations of Columbus Mayor Lashutka and Mayor Coleman.

Mr. Howarth's business experience includes four years of service as senior vice president of the Huntington National Bank.  In that position, he served as director of community relations and governmental relations.

Mr. Howarth also has been active outside his law practice.  Serving as a member of the boards of directors of many charitable organizations, his primary interests have included Children's Hospital and the Capital Area Humane Society.  He also has served on the boards of the American Red Cross, and the Columbus Academy, among others.

Mr. Howarth is a retired Brigadier General in the United States Air Force Reserves and Ohio National Guard.
